Nesta quarta, 18 de outubro, a Fundação Fernando Henrique Cardoso, com apoio da ABES, promoveu o debate “A Crise da água: o que o mundo pode fazer para evitá-la”, com Seth Siegel, empreendedor e ativista. Na ocasião, ele falou sobre as soluções encontradas por Israel, uma das regiões mais secas do mundo, para combater a falta de água e que podem ser implementadas por outros países. “Precisamos colocar a água na agenda global de uma forma como nunca esteve”, ressaltou.
Siegel é autor do livro “Faça-se a Água: a solução de Israel para um mundo com sede de água”, lançado em português pela editora da PUC-SP. A ABES também é apoiadora da publicação.
Em sua apresentação, Siegel explicou que em 2025, a falta de água atingirá diretamente cerca de 1 bilhão de pessoas no planeta e as mudanças climáticas não são a única causa. Neste cenário, os países precisam encontrar soluções para enfrentar as crises.
Em seu livro, o especialista aborda as soluções tecnológicas utilizadas em Israel, umas das regiões mais secas do mundo, segundo ele, para acabar com a falta de água. “2/3 da água de Israel é produzida”, informou. E umas das tecnologias mais avançadas empregadas naquele país é a dessalinização. “A água dessalinizada é a água mais limpa e pura que existe”, enfatizou. Outra tecnologia implantada por Israel – na agricultura – é a irrigação por gotejamento.
Educação
De acordo com ele, a cultura e a educação são fundamentais quando o assunto é o consumo consciente da água. “O que se ensina a uma criança ficará para sempre. E em Israel, eles ensinam a reverenciar a água. As pessoas respondem ao recurso de maneira racional. E essa mentalidade está no uso doméstico, na indústria e na agricultura”.
Água como elemento de paz
Siegel lembrou que tudo que se fala de Israel está bastante relacionado com os conflitos com a Palestina. Mas a sua maior alegria foi entender a água pode servir com o um fator de coexistência, cooperação e paz, apesar do cenário. “A Palestina recebe mais da metade da água produzida por Israel, 59%, mesmo em período de conflito. A água aparece como elemento de conversação. Podemos enxergar o futuro de maneira diferente.”
Brasil
Sobre a situação do Brasil, o Siegel destacou que há um problema de meio ambiente e infraestrutura por não tratar nem coletar totalmente os esgotos. “É importante começar a resolver esta questão”, salientou. “É preciso se preparar para as próximas décadas”, disse ao mencionar a Sabesp. “São Paulo é uma das cidades que mais crescem no mundo”, exemplificou.
O ativista agradeceu o convite e elogiou a participação do público. “Muito obrigado. Foi fantástico.”
Pierre Ribeiro de Siqueira, membro do Conselho Diretor da ABES, que prestigiou o evento, comentou sobre a palestra. “É muito importante debater esse tema. Precisamos colocar a água na agenda política, como fizemos no começo do mês, no Congresso ABES Fenasan 2017. Um dos desafios é a necessidade de despoluir os nossos rios”, disse. “Agradecemos a parceria com a Fundação Fernando Henrique Cardoso, que está nos apoiando na questão da água”.
