O brasileiro Eduardo Avila, de 25 anos, é um dos finalistas da edição 2020 do Prêmio Jovens Campeões da Terra na América Latina e Caribe com o projeto Revolusolar. O nome dos cinco finalistas foram divulgados em 20 de julho pelo Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente (PNUMA)
Desenvolvido em parceria com duas favelas do Rio de Janeiro (RJ), o Revolusolar cria um novo modelo energético acessível, sustentável e baseado nas comunidades. A solução inclui instalações solares, treinamento profissional para residentes locais como eletricistas e instaladores solares e oficinas para crianças sobre sustentabilidade.
Em 2020, o projeto está implementando sua primeira cooperativa solar. O modelo de financiamento inclui patrocinadores institucionais e um componente de aluguel: os beneficiários de energia solar pagam uma taxa mensal (parte da economia com a conta de luz).
Voltada a Jovens empreendedores ambientais de todo o mundo com idades entre 18 e 30 anos, a competição global visa identificar, apoiar e estimular jovens empreendedores com idade entre 18 e 30 anos com ideias inovadoras para proteger ou restaurar o meio ambiente.
Os cinco finalistas regionais foram selecionados entre mais de 845 inscritos por suas iniciativas visionárias e concretas para enfrentar as crises ambientais mais desafiadoras do mundo.
