A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental Seção Pará (ABES-PA) promoverá, em Belém, entre os dias 16 e 19 de agosto, o I Congresso Brasil Norte de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental. O tema central do encontro é “Sustentabilidade, Inovação e Desenvolvimento na Amazônia” e vai focar o desenvolvimento sustentável pautado em inovação científica e capacitação de técnicos locais, melhoria da cobertura de serviços de saneamento e educação ambiental.
O evento, que ocorrerá no Hotel Princesa Louçã, em Belém/PA, contemplará, ainda, a I Mostra de Pesquisa, Inovação, Sustentabilidade e Responsabilidade Socioambiental. As inscrições poderão ser feitas no site do evento até o dia 10 de agosto de 2017.
O presidente da ABES Seção Pará (ABES-PA), David Franco Lopes, fala sobre a importância da realização desta primeira edição do evento na Região Norte do Brasil.

ABES Notícias – Qual a importância do evento e da discussão envolvendo sustentabilidade, inovação tecnológica e desenvolvimento na Amazônia?
David Franco Lopes – É de vital importância para definir o futuro que queremos para a região. Sustentável para desenvolvermos sem nos destruir – pois é impraticável querer engessar a Amazônia com uma população de cerca de 16 milhões de habitantes. Inovação tecnológica, pois as ferramentas desenvolvidas em outros lugares precisam ser adaptadas à região, seja por limitação técnica ou por necessidade de incorporação à rotina social (usar água filtrada e clorada por ribeirinhos, por exemplo). E desenvolver para fixar a riqueza exportada na região – exportamos minério, energia, soja, gado vivo, tudo sem verticalização. Assim, se quisermos desenvolver a região de forma sustentável, precisamos inovar (em destaque).
ABES Notícias – Quais são os principais desafios na Região Norte do país, em relação aos temas que será debatido no encontro?
David Franco Lopes – A região tem características únicas e escalas diferenciadas, seja nas distâncias, volumes (de água, de minérios) seja na biodiversidade. Por isso, soluções tecnologicamente comuns em outras regiões precisam ser adaptadas antes de serem implementadas aqui, por exemplo, como fazer esgotamento sanitário sobre palafitas? Ou medir vazão do Rio Amazonas em Óbidos, com até 100m de profundidade, onde os equipamentos mais modernos só atingem 60m? Também discutiremos a navegação e segurança de portos na região onde o único modo de deslocamento são os barcos.
ABES Notícias – Qual é o cenário do saneamento ambiental na Amazônia – e na Região Norte em comparação com as outras regiões do Brasil? Quais são os entraves e os avanços, neste sentido?
David Franco Lopes – Temos baixa cobertura de saneamento, nossas capitais estão no fim da fila em tais índices. Muitas cidades amazônicas têm os menores Índices de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH) do Brasil – ressaltando que Melgaço (município localizado na ilha do Marajó) é o último no ranking do PNUD/ONU relativo ao IDH no Brasil.

David Franco Lopes – Nossa expectativa é debater nossos problemas, buscando alternativas, identificar boas práticas e soluções viáveis tecnologicamente, adaptando-as caso necessário. Não precisamos inventar a roda, mas buscar respostas aos nossos problemas.
