32º Congresso da ABES: Belo Horizonte, a “Cidade Jardim”

A capital mineira espera por você, de 21 a 24 de maio, no mais importante evento de saneamento ambiental do Brasil. Aproveite sua estadia para conhecer as áreas verdes da cidade.

Projetada pelo Engenheiro e Urbanista, Aarão Reis, Belo Horizonte foi pensada para ser a cidade do futuro. Inaugurada em 1901, a capital de Minas Gerais foi uma das primeiras cidades modernas a ser planejada no Brasil.

Logo nas primeiras décadas após a sua fundação, Belo Horizonte passou a ser conhecida nacionalmente como a “Cidade Jardim”. O título que ainda se mantém, se dá pelo seu vasto patrimônio em áreas verdes públicas.

A capital de clima ameno, foi muito favorável ao tratamento de doenças respiratórias, e acolheu artistas como Noel Rosa, em 1930, e Gonzaguinha, em 1980, ambos em busca de tratamento para tuberculose.

Atualmente, Belo Horizonte contabiliza mais de 38 milhões de m² de áreas verdes, distribuídos entre seus 75 parques, mais de 750 praças ou jardins e outros 210 espaços livres de uso público.

De acordo com o Índice de Áreas Protegidas (IAP) da Prefeitura de Belo Horizonte, que calcula em metros quadrados a quantidade de vegetação disponível por habitante dentro do complexo urbano, a capital possui cerca de 23,59 m² de área verde para cada um de seus moradores.
