A Revista “Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental” (ESA) é um veículo de informação técnica da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES, que tem por objetivo oferecer à comunidade científica um meio de divulgação das atividades de pesquisa em saneamento e/ou meio ambiente. A publicação pretende ainda promover o aprofundamento científico e tecnológico do setor, disseminar conhecimento científico e contribuir para a educação continuada e valorização profissional.
Para falar sobre a proposta da publicação técnica-científica, uma das mais importantes do Brasil, e projetos em andamento, conversamos com o Prof. Dr. André Bezerra do Santos, da Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC), editor geral da Revista ESA. Confira:
ABES Notícias – Como surgiu a ideia de criar a Revista ESA e qual é o seu papel no meio acadêmico?
André Bezerra do Santos – Publicada desde 1962, com o título “Engenharia Sanitária”, sendo que, em 1996 incorporou a palavra “Ambiental”, a revista nasceu a partir de uma demanda de espaços de publicação técnica e divulgação de dados. Nesse período, houve crescimento e um forte aumento na demanda dos programas de pesquisa em saneamento e meio ambiente em todo o território nacional que, aliado ao crescimento dos cursos de mestrado e doutorado na área, contribuíram para promover aumento exponencial na quantidade de artigos produzidos, no momento em que o país necessitava de um expressivo esforço para melhorar a oferta de serviços de saneamento e meio ambiente.
ABES Notícias – Diante dos objetivos propostos, qual o status atual da publicação e como foi sua adaptação para atender às demandas do saneamento com a pandemia?
André Bezerra do Santos – A Revista ESA tem como principal missão a disseminação, no mais alto padrão nacional e internacional, dos estudos técnicos e científicos das engenharias e áreas afins sobre as temáticas sanitária e ambiental. Durante o início do período da pandemia de covid-19, a revista tentou se adequar para contribuir na disseminação do conhecimento, incorporando a publicação na modalidade “fast track”, cujos artigos podem ser obtidos na Edição Especial Covid – 19 na página da revista ESA na ABES (acesse aqui).
Em setembro de 2021, houve a mudança da Edição Geral da Revista ESA. Saiu o Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Moruzzi, da Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), que ficou à frente da revista por quatro anos, e assumi como editor geral, junto com o Prof. Dr. Maurício Motta Sobrinho, da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), como editor geral adjunto, ambos para o período de 2021 a 2023. Houve também renovação no quadro de editores associados nacionais e internacionais, de maneira a possibilitar uma boa distribuição geográfica dentro e fora do país.

André Bezerra do Santos – As principais metas e desafios da Revista ESA dizem respeito ao seu processo de internacionalização, aumento do número de citações e do fator de impacto, e melhoria nos indicadores de tempo de avaliação e de publicação.
ABES Notícias – Como surgiu a parceria com o Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia em Estações Sustentáveis de Tratamento de Esgoto (INCT ETEs Sustentáveis)? Como está sendo desenvolvida esta parceria?
André Bezerra do Santos – No ano de 2021, a Revista ESA iniciou uma conversa com a diretoria da ABES e Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia (INCT) ETEs Sustentáveis para criação de um novo periódico nacional intitulado “Cadernos Técnicos de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental (CTESA)”. Os CTESA publicarão edições trimestrais na forma de notas técnicas, com submissões por chamadas, abertas ou fechadas, e volumes especiais de eventos científicos. Em outras palavras, serão lançadas na comunidade técnica e científica chamadas específicas para submissão de contribuições em áreas do conhecimento consideradas importantes, e não exploradas em volumes recentes. Outras edições serão provenientes da seleção dos melhores trabalhos submetidos em eventos científicos, previamente acordados com os editores da revista, sempre quando houver disponibilidade orçamentária para o processo de editoração. O corpo editorial dos CTESA é o mesmo da Revista ESA, sendo a avaliação das contribuições realizada na forma fast track e a revisão em doubleblind, ou seja, os avaliadores não conhecem os autores e os estes últimos não conhecem os nomes dos avaliadores.
ABES Notícias – Quais são os planos para 2022 em relação à parceria com o INCT ETEs Sustentáveis e outros projetos?
André Bezerra do Santos – Para o lançamento dos CTESA, firmou-se uma parceria com o Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia (INCT) ETEs Sustentáveis, para a publicação de cerca de 50 notas técnicas (NTs). Uma parte dessas publicações já está disponibilizada na página (acesse aqui). Tem-se uma expectativa de que, até março de 2022, todas essas NTs estarão disponíveis no site da revista.
De forma complementar, já foi acertada a publicação nos CTESA de uma edição especial relativa aos melhores trabalhos do 31º Congresso Brasileiro de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental, o qual ocorreu em Curitiba (PR), de 17 a 20 de outubro de 2021. Tem-se também a expectativa de novas edições especial de congressos a serem realizados em 2022.
As principais metas e desafios dos CTESA dizem respeito à sua ampla divulgação na comunidade técnica e científica, à finalização do site, guia de submissão e ISBN, entre outros elementos típicos de um novo periódico de circulação nacional, e sua consolidação como um importante veículo de transmissão de conhecimento nacional nas áreas da Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental.
