Livro “Tratamento Biológico de Esgoto” da IWA: Câmara Temática de Tratamento de Esgotos da ABES lança edição em português

Considerado o best seller do setor de saneamento mundial, a obra ganhou sua versão em português com a participação voluntária de renomados especialistas acadêmicos do Brasil. Durante o webinar do ABES Conecta, esta quarta-feira, 23, o editor, engenheiro Marcelo Miki, detalhou o processo de tradução e adaptação dos termos técnicos para a realidade do país.

A Câmara Temática de Tratamento de Esgotos da ABES realizou, nesta quarta-feira, dia 23 de novembro, o lançamento da edição em português do Livro “Tratamento Biológico de Esgoto”, da Associação Internacional da Água – IWA. Com apresentação e mediação de André Bezerra dos Santos, professor titular na Universidade Federal do Ceará – UFCE e membro da Câmara Temática da ABES de Tratamento de Esgotos, o webinar, que aconteceu no ABES Conecta, com transmissão pelo canal da ABES no YouTube, contou com a participação de Daniel Nolasco, vice-presidente da IWA, e do editor do livro, o engenheiro do Departamento de Implementação de Pesquisa, Desenvolvimento de Projetos e Inovação da Sabesp, Marcelo Kenji Miki, também membro da Câmara. Em sua apresentação, Daniel Nolasco contou o histórico de atuação da IWA e sua missão em prol de um mundo melhor na gestão sustentável da água e do saneamento. “Dentro da IWA temos cientistas, pesquisadores, engenheiros, operadores, empresas de tecnologia, operadoras de água, como a Sabesp, e estamos todos conectados à escala global no que se refere a este tema. A IWA é considerada uma das referências internacionais mais importantes para a água e a indústria da água e do saneamento”, salientou.

Um aspecto muito importante em torno da edição deste livro no Brasil, segundo Nolasco, é a relação com a ABES e a AIDIS – Associação Interamericana de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental. “Assinamos, recentemente, em Punta Cana (onde ocorreu o último congresso da entidade), um acordo com o BID – Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento, para, por meio da IWA Publish, traduzir os livros da entidade do espanhol para o português. Sendo assim, o Marcelo Miki e as equipes de professores das Universidades e da ABES, que atuaram na tradução do livro que estamos lançando hoje, estão adiantados, e, portanto, estão de parabéns por essa iniciativa”, destacou. O vice-presidente da IWA observou que não somente no caso deste livro, mas muitas ações que a ABES faz são iniciativas que vão ao encontro desses acordos e marcam o caminho da Engenharia Sanitária para a região.

O especialista contou que a primeira edição foi publicada em 2008 e tornou-se um best seller da IWA Publish, atendendo a uma necessidade de compreensão maior sobre o tratamento das águas residuais, uma vez que a obra mostra avanços importantes, como as que envolvem a modelagem, por exemplo.  “O livro agora, no português, será um best seller também no Brasil”, assegurou Nolasco.

Para André Bezerra dos Santos, da UFC, que participou do processo de tradução de três capítulos do livro, a edição em português vai trazer uma grande contribuição, não só para a área acadêmica, mas também para os diferentes profissionais que atuam no setor de tratamento de esgoto. “Certamente o sucesso que foi obtido na edição de 2008 vai chegar de uma forma mais aprimorada dentro dessa revisão feita atualmente por todos os autores brasileiros”, comentou. Ele passou as palavras para Marcelo Miki elogiando-o pela condução dos trabalhos.

O engenheiro Marcelo Miki informou que o livro intitulado “Tratamento Biológico de Esgoto – Princípios, Modelagem e Projeto” na tradução para o português foi lançado em agosto deste ano. E contou um pouco dos bastidores para a preparação da edição brasileira. “Esta é a segunda edição da obra da IWA, que é uma referência no setor, ganhando, inclusive, recentemente, um prêmio de melhor livro científico pelo corpo de especialistas da entidade”, contou.

Na sequência, Miki detalhou o Index do livro, explicando alguns pontos importantes no âmbito técnico das abordagens tratadas na obra e destacando a atuação de professores que o incentivaram desde o começo a se envolver com o processo de tradução para o Brasil, como o Prof. Pedro Além Sobrinho. Ele lembrou alguns webinares e atividades voluntárias, encabeçadas por entidades como a IWA e a ABES, que promoveram a divulgação do livro e ajudaram em seu engajamento internacional.

O começo de tudo, segundo Miki, se deu a partir do seu interesse em fazer a tradução de um capítulo da obra e que resultou em uma proposta maior vinda do editor da IWA, Mark Hammond, que o convidou para a tradução do livro inteiro. E, diante do desafio, Miki buscou voluntários que pudessem ajudá-lo na tarefa, como amigos da Escola Politécnica, da USP, da Câmara Temática de Tratamento de Esgoto da ABES e do INCT – Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia – ETEs Sustentáveis.

O engenheiro citou a participação especial da Profa. Dione Mari Morita, da Escola Politécnica, no Capítulo 3, que o incentivou a convidar outros especialistas acadêmicos em cada tema e essa foi a diretriz que ele adotou para a condução da empreitada no Brasil. Isso resultou na participação do Prof. Roque Passos Piveli, que atuou na tradução do capítulo 4; Prof. Theo Syrto Octavio de Souza, que participou do capítulo 5 e do capítulo 2, em conjunto com a Profa. Daniela Vital Vich, da UFAL, de Alagoas; os professores Rodrigo de Freitas Bueno e Alexandre Magno Parente da Rocha, que atuaram no capítulo 15; o Prof. Eduardo Lucas Subtil, no capítulo 13; Prof. André Bezerra dos Santos, nos capítulos 10 e 11, destacando a atuação primaz na Universidade Federal do Ceará. Miki ressaltou também a participação do Prof. Sílvio Luiz de Sousa Rollemberg nestes capítulos 10 e 11, junto com o Prof. André Bezerra. Além disso, Miki contou que outro capítulo do qual o Prof. André Bezerra participou foi o 7, sobre Tratamento Inovador de Esgoto contendo Enxofre, com as colaborações de Paulo Igor Milen Firmino e Marcos Erick Rodrigues da Silva. O editor ressaltou também a participação da UFMG – Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, que contribuiu com os trabalhos dos professores Lucas Vassalle de Castro; Lucas Antonio de Oliveira Melgaço; e César Rossas Mota Filho, na tradução do capítulo 6. Pela UFMG participaram também Thiago Bressani Ribeiro e Carlos Augusto L. Chernicharo, no capítulo 16 – Tratamento anaeróbico de águas residuais; e Prof. Moacir M. Araújo Jr, do capítulo 17 – Reatores de Biofilmes; e no capítulo 17 de Modelagem de Biofilmes, Miki citou o Prof. Gustavo Sertório de Almeida; e no capítulo 14, sobre Modelagem de Processo de Lodo Ativado, contou com o Prof. Lucas Brandimarte Molleta; e o Prof. Sérgio Roberto Carvalho de Souza, no capítulo 12 – Decantação Final.

Pela EESC – USP, Miki citou o Prof. Luiz Antonio Daniel, que a convite do Prof. Pedro Além Sobrinho atuou no capítulo 8. Pela Sabesp, Miki convidou o prof. Bruno Sidnei da Silva, que participou do capítulo 9 sobre Aeração e Mistura.O engenheiro Marcelo Miki explicou o processo do trabalho de um editor diante das várias responsabilidades para dar andamento na tradução de uma obra internacional tão relevante. “Não foi uma atividade de mera tradução, pois teve uma análise crítica que levou três anos de trabalho, em meio a uma pandemia, o que exigiu flexibilidade e resiliência de todos os envolvidos”, observou.

 

Ao final da apresentação, Miki também comentou sobre curiosidades que envolveram a tradução de alguns termos técnicos e suas adaptações para a edição em português, entre outros detalhes e complementos que foram necessários para publicação da obra no Brasil.

Retomando a palavra, Nolasco fez algumas considerações que enalteceram o trabalho dos especialistas brasileiros e do editor Marcelo Miki, como um exemplo para as futuras traduções dos livros da IWA que serão feitas em parceria com o BID.

Para concluir o evento, o Prof. André Bezerra ressaltou o trabalho importante da ABES para a divulgação dessa obra no setor de saneamento brasileiro. “Esse trabalho possibilita o acesso a essa obra de maneira gratuita e que de fato os profissionais do setor consigam utilizar esse grande conteúdo”, destacou.
